Dr. Makhlouf Aït Mimoun is a biotech innovator and founder of Tirinitec, a startup using bacteria to combat desertification in southern Morocco. His research focuses on manipulating microbes and soil bacteria to improve groundwater absorption, offering a groundbreaking way to restore drylands and make regions more fertile.
However, sustainability is more than just technology—it’s a social revolution. Coming from a Western scientific background, Makhlouf had to learn how to integrate local knowledge, collaboration, and cultural perspectives to make a real impact. He challenges the elitist and exclusive nature of the sustainability movement, arguing that true environmental progress must be inclusive and community-driven.
